Women’s roundup: Neumann tops Arcadia in opener; Delaware, Princeton fall in D1

The Neumann University women’s lacrosse team defeated Arcadia University 15-11 on a rainy and cold Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Erica Crabtree (Spring Ford) led the Knights with seven goals. Koula Gregor (Clearview, NJ) added three tallies. Meghan Garsey had two goals and three assists. Sam Kotowski (A.I. Dupont, DE) made eight saves for the win.

The teams traded goals to start the game. Crabtree then rattled off three straight goals and the Knights first four to take a 4-2 advantage. After Arcadia made it 4-3, Neumann scored three straight goals for a 7-3 lead. Arcadia finished the half with two goals for a 7-5 halftime score.

The Knights came out on fire in the second half and scored the first six goals to jump out to a 13-5 lead. Arcadia would not go away quietly and continued to try and keep pace with Neumann. The six goals at the start of the half proved to be enough and the Knights held on for the 15-11 win.

Haylee Molloy had five goals and an assist for the Knights.

Scranton 13, Haverford College 12

Deanna Giorno (Central Bucks South) scored twice to help the Royals earn the tight win. Josie Ferri (Pennsbury) had four goals and an assist and Alexa pesce added three for the Fords.

Hood 12, Albright 10

Meghan Wilson scored four goals for first-year Albright (1-1) in its loss to Hood. Albright had won its first game on Monday over Lancaster Bible, 16-7, as Wilson tallied an amazing 10 goals.

Division I
Georgetown 16, Delaware 7

Delaware (2-3), which had a two-game winning streak snapped, got two goals from Abbie Hartman (North Penn).

Rutgers 11, Princeton 10, 2 OT

The 8th-ranked Tigers suffered their first defeat of the season dropping a heartbreaking double overtime game to visiting Rutgers in the home opener on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.

Lauren Sbrilli scored at 4:41 in the second overtime after a scrum in front of the cage to end the game.

Junior Jaci Gassaway had a five-point game with three goals and two assists for Princeton. Sophomore Mary-Kate Sivilli had two goals and one assist. Seniors Barb Previ and Cassie Pyle each scored twice and freshman Erin McMunn had two assists.
