Freshman attackman Joey Sankey (Penn Charter) had three goals and three assists and an amazing nine groundballs as well as a caused turnover to help North Carolina rout Mercer, 20-7, today in men’s college lacrosse in Atlanta, Ga.

The Tar Heels (2-0) also got three groundballs and a caused turnover from freshman defenseman Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum School) and five saves (only two goals allowed) from redshirt freshman goalie Andrew O’Connell (Malvern Prep), who was the No. 2 goalie.
Sankey also started in the Tar Heels’ 14-10 win over Penn State Saturday.
Detroit Mercy 13, Michigan 9
Jeff Chu (Conestoga) had a goal and an assist, two groundballs and a caused turnover for Michigan in its first Division I game.
