Jon Sax

Lawrenceville School (N.J.) post-graduate defenseman Jon Sax, a St. Joseph’s Prep alum, has committed to play Division III lacrosse and football at Tufts University.

Jon Sax log:

High School: Lawrenceville School PG/St. Joseph’s Prep

Graduation Year: PG

Position: defenseman

College Choice: Tufts University

Club lacrosse affiliation: Duke’s L.C.

Major lacrosse honors: All-Catholic Second Team, 2009-10; Member, Catholic League champions and state finalist, 2011; EPSLA Showcase 2009-10.

Academic honors: Honor Roll, St. Joseph’s Prep and Lawrenceville; National Honor Society

What will you major in/study? Undecided

His football side: Plays defensive end.

Overcoming injuries: Sax lost most of his senior year in lacrosse (2011) at St. Joe’s due to a broken leg and other complications sustained during the 2010 football season. Last summer he suffered a sports hernia, but returned to serve as a two-way starter for the Lawrenceville football team.

Why did you choose Tufts?
“It’s in a great location (Northwest of Boston), it has great academics, and the coaches for football and lacrosse made me feel comfortable. They were very accommodating, and some coach both football and lacrosse

“II feel proud to call myself a two-sport guy.”

“Things didn’t turn out the way I expected, but I ended with the best possible circumstances. I get to play both sports at an awesome school. My Mom really liked Tufts, which is important. They are supportive of two-sport players and I feel proud to call myself a two-sport guy.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for the season?“Our expectations are, in general, to compete and win against some of the best teams in the county. We don’t care who they have; we’re coming for them and we’re ready to compete with anybody. We feel we have the talent and coaching to do that.”

Other comments: “I’d like to thank my parents for supporting me the whole way and showing me love throughout this whole process. I’d also like to thank the ‘cockpit.’ They know who they are. And I want to thank all those who have taught me the great lessons along the way.”
