Tryouts

Philly Boys’ Under Armour Underclassmen Games, from 5-to-8 p.m., June 13 and 14 at Radnor High. The Philly team will be coached by Brian Samson, who has guided Conestoga to two straight Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) championships. His assistants will be Pat McDonough (Penn Charter), Tom Lemieux (Springfield-Delco) and Mike Friel (former coach at Springfield-Delco, former head coach of UA team).

The 10-team tournament will be held June 29-July 1. In addition to the Philly teams, squads will come from Baltimore, Long Island, Midwest, New England, New Jersey, South, Upstate NY and Washington, D.C. and West. The Big Four Lacrosse clinics, for high school players to learn advanced skills, showcase their talent, and build relationships with the coaches responsible for recruiting high school student-athletes, on all 4 Sundays in February (2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26), 1:30– 3:30 pm (12-2 pm on 2/26). The clinics are open to all current high school students (grades 9 – 12), at Cabrini College’s Dixon Field (field turf surface). Coaches from the area’s top collegiate programs are running the clinics. Each player will be assigned an individual jersey in order to assure recognition. The fee for the clinics is $300 for all 4 clinics or $85 for each individual clinic. To register, click here.

This clinic will include instruction from Former NCAA MVP’s, National Champions and College All Americans.

Tournaments

Second annual Philly Indoor Lacrosse Championships (PILC) is scheduled for February 11-12 at the Feasterville Sportsplex in Feasterville, PA. Though there are a few spots left at both the high school and youth divisions, the PILC is on track to be a complete sell-out, with 24 high school-age teams competing on Saturday, and 24 youth teams in action on Sunday. Additionally, this year the PILC will offer the option of playing box lacrosse for teams that want the box experience, and can provide specialized box goalie equipment. Teams interested in registering for the PILC should do so quickly online at VictoryEventSeries.com. The Third annual Battle of Fort Washington Lacrosse tournament, hosted by Upper Dublin’s rooked Crosse Lacrosse Club, March 10-11 at the SPARK all weather fields in Upper Dublin, PA. The tournament will feature boys’ youth lacrosse teams from across the tri-state area. The tournament will consist of four boys’ divisions, A1 & A2 (7/8th grade) and B1 & B2 5/6th grade teams. Each team is guaranteed a minimum 2-game, 25-minute running halves. The A Divisions will be played Saturday, March 10 with B Division beginning Sunday, March 11.

This preseason event will take place on two all weather turf fields. This tournament is geared toward Township recreation level teams looking to get a start on their season. Mad Hatters Lax Invitational
, boys’ and girls’ tourneys that feature only JV high school teams. The tournaments will be hosted at Dennis Landis Memorial Park on Lower State Road in North Wales. (Horsham Hawks Football Complex). The boys’ tourney will be held on Saturday, May 12 and the girls’ tourney will be on Sunday, May 13. Click here for coverage of last year’s inaugural boys’ tourney.

These tournaments are open to any HS JV Teams for the 2011 season. Players must be in grades 9-to-11 and be listed on the HS Junior Varsity Roster. Cost is $400.00 per team. The tournaments will be round-robin with a championship game at the end and trophies awarded. Ninth Annual Liberty Lacrosse Shootout, a boys’ youth lacrosse festival, June 9-10, at the Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association’s Line Road Complex, Malvern. The Liberty Shootout has become one of the most popular youth festivals in the Mid-Atlantic region, drawing teams Greater Philadelphia, Central PA, the Lehigh Valley, New Jersey and neighboring hotbeds within a few hours’ drive. Over 100 teams and 2500 youth players are expected to participate. Warrior has been the principal sponsor of the Shootout for 7 years.
Liberty is a day tournament, with U-9 and U-13 teams playing on Saturday and U-11 and U-15 teams playing on Sunday. Teams can register to play in either A or B brackets, though all U-9 teams play in one bracket on smaller-sized fields (7 v 7), often generating the most noise. Teams will play at least 3 games in diverse pools within their respective age groups. The competition is strong at each level, rules are designed to ensure games remain competitive; pool winners advance in a playoff format.

Additionally, teams in each age group will be recognized for sportsmanship based largely on sportsmanship scorecards kept by certified officials and site marshals after each game, taking into account the spirit of the game and conduct on both sides of the field, including spectators. Referees Clinic

The Greater Philadelphia Lacrosse Officials Association (GPLOA) will be hosting training for boys’ lacrosse officials beginning on Thursday, February 9 at LaSalle High School in Wyndmoor. Offering top flight NLL-style lacrosse instructional leagues to players in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Lehigh counties, as well as Philadelphia, American Indoor Lacrosse has Winter youth leagues are forming now at The Factory in King of Prussia and Bucksmont Indoor Sports Center, Hatfield, PA. Are you on target to take your game to the next level? American Indoor Lacrosse Association (AILA) is spearheading the indoor lacrosse phenomenon of blending the skill sets formed by these two versions of the sport. With lacrosse icons leading the way, local Philadelphia players can expect to be one step ahead of the trend. Lehigh Valley Coaches Clinic at DeSales University, Sunday, February 12th, sponsored by the PLA and Neiman Sports Group, 8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast; 9:00 a.m. Speakers Begin. Philadelphia Wings Lacrosse Camps, this April at Maple Zone in Boothwyn, PA. The camp directors are Brodie Merrill, Dan Dawson and Kevin Crowley, and other Wings players will be also be attending the camps

Camp 1 – Monday, April 2nd and Tuesday, April 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and
Camp 2 – Wednesday, April 4th and Thursday, April 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

The camps are scheduled during Spring Break in many school districts, so this is a great way to fill part of your son’s Spring Break calendar. The camps will be limited to 50 campers each, so please register early because they will sell out quickly. The camps will be “Hybrid” camps, where campers will learn both field and box lacrosse skills that will make them a better lacrosse player. The camp directors are some of the best lacrosse players in the world, so campers will have an opportunity to learn from players who have excelled in the NCAA, NLL, MLL and the World Championships.

Villanova University Overnight Instructional Camp, July 10-13, for athletes aged 11-to-17 that are interested in improving their basic skills and learning the techniques of lacrosse. The camp will be divided into a two junior divisions (11- and 12-year olds and 13- and 14- year-olds) and a senior division (15-to-17). The entire Villanova University Men’s Lacrosse staff as well as local high school coaches and many of the best current college players will be coaching. This event will bring together some of the most talented rising sophomores and juniors in the country.
