Episcopal Academy junior defenseman Dante Addona has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at St. John’s University.

Dante Addona log:

Dante Addona

High School: Episcopal Academy

Graduation Year:
2013

Position: Defenseman

College Choice: St. John’s

Club Affiliation: HEADstrong

Major lacrosse honors:
ESPN Watch List, Philly Showcase Gait All-Star 2010, 2011; EPSLA Showcase, 2011

Academic honors:
Harold and Edith Kohn Scholarship for Excellent in Mind, Body and Spirit.

What will you major in/study? Considering Bio Med Pharmaceuticals, or Business

Other info: He committed shortly before close friend Dan Smyth (Springfield-Delco) picked St. John’s; also older brother Joe Addona (Springfield-Delco) was starter as a freshman defenseman and fellow Springfield-Delco grad Colin Keegan is a sophomore attackman.

Why did you choose St. John’s: “From the time I walked on campus to the time I left I loved every minute being at St John’s. They have a very talented and dedicated team that is capable of doing big things. The Big East is one of the best leagues in college lacrosse and I am really looking forward to playing under coach (Jason) Miller against these teams every season. It also was a huge factor that my big brother Joe is there. Although originally I did not want to follow in his footsteps, after visiting I knew it was the right school.”

Other schools considered: Lehigh, Villanova, Bucknell

What is your HS team’s outlook for the season? “Going through the locker room, I know we have talent. Our work ethic this year is better than before and with those things coupled together, we have what it takes to shock some people in the league this year.”

People to thank: “I want to thank my whole family for their support, especially my parents; all of my HEADstrong coaches, Mike Colleluori, Bret Moyer, Brian Neary, Steve Layne, Jake Wilcox and Billy McGlone; the coaches at Episcopal, Andy Hayes, Will Gibbs and Bryan McDermott, and Coaches Dan Paccione and Jason Miller of St. John’s.”
