Boys’ lacrosse schedule: Conestoga releases 2012 slate loaded with non-league powers

The Conestoga boys’ lacrosse team, the two-time Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state champions, will face a schedule loaded with many of the top teams in the country this spring.

The Pioneers (25-1 last year, 73-5 the past three seasons) will face a stunning group of foes from PA, Maryland and Long Island and are tentatively slated to face Canadian power Hill Academy.

The schedule opens with a bang on March 23 when the Pioneers travel to Baltimore MIAA power Calvert Hall, expected to be the No. 1 team in the preseason in most polls. Other non-leagues games vs. out-of-state teams include MIAA heavyweight Boys’ Latin (away, April 3), and Long Island power Garden City (April 14 at Haverford School’s Checking for Cancer tourney).

The non-league foes from PA are: Haverford School (last year’s national champion) at the Katie Samson Festival on April 28, another loaded Inter-Ac power, Malvern Prep, (home, March 30), and Catholic League power and 2008-09 state champion La Salle (home, May 5).

The schedule, of course, also features the teams from the Central League, typically one of the top conferences in the region. In fact, the regular season closes May 8 at Garnet Valley, the Central league runner-up last year.
