Manhasset High (N.Y.) senior defender Nicole Sockett has made a verbal commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Haverford College.
Sockett intends on majoring in Neuroscience or Psychology at Haverford. During the recruitment process she also considered Washington and Lee, Holy Cross and Davidson before deciding on Haverford.
“I chose Haverford because I was looking for a small liberal arts school with high academic standards,” said Sockett, who also plays club lacrosse for Long Island Express. “My sister attends Haverford and has had a wonderful experience and I am excited to hopefully do the same
“I also wanted a lacrosse program on the rise with a dedicated and personable coach.”
Haverford College had a standout 2010 season, finishing 13-5 under the leadership of coach Julie Young. Young, a Germantown Academy alum and former Princeton great who is in her third year, has been credited with the turn around of Haverford’s lacrosse program.
“My visit went great, I enjoyed the classes I attended and I felt like I really bonded with the girls on the team as well as the other recruits,” Sockett said. “I had a wonderful time.”
Throughout her high school career, Sockett was a Scholar athlete every season for soccer, indoor track and lacrosse. She was also a 4-year starter, two time All-class award winner and captain of the soccer team. Sockett also volunteers for the Manhasset special needs soccer program and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Manhasset had a very successful 2010 season (16-2), winning the Nassau County Championship.
“My goals for this season are to finally win a Long Island championship and continue on to states,” said Sockett.
