Avon Grove sophomore attackman/midfielder Tanner Peck has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Penn State University.

Peck, who plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club, becomes the second Philly boy from the Class of 2014 to make a Division I commitment public. The first, last week, was Malvern Prep defenseman Greg Pelton (Duke).

Tanner Peck log:

High School:
Avon Grove

Graduation Year:
2014

Position:
Attackman/Midfielder

College Choice:
Penn State

Others considered:
Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Notre Dame

Club Affiliation: Duke’s Lacrosse Club

Major lacrosse honors:
All-Ches-Mont League honorable mention, MVP Crabfeast Tournament, captain for Duke’s in Class of 2014, first Duke’s LC player to ever commit to D1 program as sophomore.

Academic honors:
High honors

What will you major in/study?
Undecided, leaning toward business

Why did you choose school? “I wanted to play under coach (Jeff) Tambroni and I wanted to be part of a program that is coming up in college lacrosse. I want to help Penn State get to a place where they have never been in college lacrosse.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year? “This year we’re going to be good. We’re a little young, but we lost 15 seniors. But at the same time, we have some good returning varsity players. If we play unselfish and play as a team, I think we have the potential.”

Other comments:
“I’d like to thank the Dukes organization as a whole, my parents, my high school coach, Eric Jackson, and my family.”
