St. Augustine Prep (N.J.) junior defenseman Nate Gorman has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Villanova University.

Major lacrosse honors: Gait All-Star Fab 40 pick, Philly Showcase, All Star King of Hill, Top 205, Member of NJ Under Armour Underclassmen Games, starter since freshman year in HS; helped lead team to Group A state finals for second straight year.
Academic honors: Headmaster’s List, President of Junior Class
What will you major in/study? Business
Why did you choose school? “I wanted to stay relatively close to home. It’s an hour and a half drive. I know where the program is headed. I felt comfortable with the team, coach (Michael) Corrado, coach (Simon) Connor and coach (Andy) German.
“Between the academics and athletics, it doesn’t get much better. They have a prestigious business program and the lacrosse program keeps getting better.”
What is your HS team’s outlook for next year? “I know our schedule is a lot more demanding. I feel we’ll be able to adapt to it and take the program to new heights. I know we obviously want to win that last game and take the last step.”
Other comments: “I want to thank St. Augustine coach (JC) Valore. I wouldn’t be in this position of playing D1 lacrosse without him. I also want to thank (Navy Prep and former St. Augustine assistant) coach Mark Voumard.”
