Lacrosse head coach Candace Taglianetti (Haverford High) has announced the team’s 2012 schedule (see below). The Explorers will begin their 2012 campaign on February 19 with a 1:00 p.m. home contest against Oregon. In 2005, the two teams squared off for the first time, with La Salle winning a 15-10 decision. La Salle’s other non-conference opponents include Iona, Delaware, Lafayette, Drexel, Binghampton, Villanova, and San Diego State.
“I am really excited about the schedule we have put together for the upcoming season,” Taglianetti said. “We have some great competitors and strong rivals on the schedule, as well as matchups with teams we are hoping to grow new traditions with in the future.”
Conference play will kick off on Friday, March 30 when the Blue and Gold host Duquesne for a 4:00 p.m. matchup. On Sunday of that same weekend, the Explorers will also welcome St. Bonaventure to McCarthy stadium.
The Explorers will play road contests at Temple and Richmond, before returning home to face George Washington on April 15. A trip to Massachusetts on April 20 will represent the Blue and Gold’s final regular season road game.
La Salle will close out its regular season by hosting St. Joseph’s at McCarthy Stadium on April 22. The Atlantic 10 Championships will be held from April 27-29 in Richmond, Va.
The Explorers return a strong core group of players, having only lost one starter, Brittany White, to graduation. The team welcomes nine freshmen and two transfer students.
