Shipley School senior midfielder/attackman Mike Litner has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Amherst College.

Mike Litner

High School: Shipley School
Graduation Year: 2012
Position: midfielder/attackman
College Choice: Amherst College
Club Affiliation: Long Island Sting
Major lacrosse honors: Team captain his junior and senior years, Shipley co-MVP and First Team All-Friends Schools League his junior year. In 2011, Litner posted 59 goals and 43 assists for 102 points, a Shipley record for points in a season, as the Gators cruised to their third-consecutive Friends Schools League title.
Academic honors: Recipient of the Janet Neville Scholarship Prize, which goes to the two juniors that show true intellectual promise.
Other info: Litner will join rising junior defenseman and Shipley grad Arne Anderson, who helped the Lord Jeffs enjoy their best season ever, going 15-3 while advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals.

Why did you choose school? “For me, Amherst College is the perfect combination of excellent academics and highly competitive athletics.
“Coach (Jon) Thompson is taking his team to the next level. He challenges his players to excel both in their personal lives and while on the field. He’s the type of guy who will make you a better player and a better person.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year? “We will miss high school All-American Julius Mouser on the offensive end, but we have the personnel on offense to play a much more team-oriented style that should yield high results. Defensively, we remain strong, returning nearly every defensive-minded player. We’re looking forward to a more difficult schedule, starting with an early season home game against Episcopal Academy, who we upset with a 9-7 win last year in the inaugural Inter-Ac Mid-Atlantic Invitational.”

Other comments: Litner would like to thank Shipley coaches Mark Duncan, Dave Rauch, Travis McDonnell, Ted Bloom and coach Ken Miller from the LI Sting.
