Central Bucks South rising senior midfielder-defender Maddie DiBrino has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Drexel University.

Maddie DiBrino

In 2011, DiBrino was named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American and First Team All-Suburban One Continental Conference. She plays club lacrosse for Select Lacrosse.

DiBrino was named a Phillylacrosse.com Scholar-Athlete of the Week this year and is in the National Honor Society at Central Bucks South. She is on the Titan Council and Operation Enduring Gratitude and has served as a People to People Student Ambassador.

DiBrino plans to major in Hospitality Management, a large reason Drexel appealed to her.

“I love that they have the Co-op, six months you take classes and six months you work at a job,” said DiBrino. “They have a really good program for my major and they have a lot of good connections, especially with the Co-op, and that was a big deal. It’s close to my house, and I don’t like being far away.”

The Dragons are coached by Anna Marie Vesco, who is the Drexel’s career leader in wins and has been coaching at the university since 2003.

“I love the coach too, she’s so nice,” said DiBrino of Vesco. “I really liked their program and how she ran things.”

“My cousin plays lacrosse at Temple, but one of her best friends (defender Julia Lanzetta) is on the Drexel lacrosse team, so I talked to her about it and she loves it.”

DiBrino is the third Philly rising senior to commit to Drexel this year, along with attack Eva Winiarski (Downingtown East), attack Katelyn Fay (Henderson).

DiBrino’s Titans finished 2011 with a 5-7 record in the Suburban One and 10-9 overall.

“I thought we had a pretty good season,” said DiBrino. “We definitely had a lot of talent, but sometimes we worked so well together and sometime everyone was just thinking for themselves.

“Once we got into the middle of the season and towards the end, we all clicked, and we made it to the first round of playoffs, so I thought that was good.”

DiBrino sees success for the Titans next year.

“Make it to playoffs again, try to have a few more wins, and just really work on our movement and our connections on the field,” said DiBrino of her 2012 goals.
