St. Augustine Prep (N.J.) rising senior midfielder Tommy O’Neill has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Penn State University.

Tommy O’Neill log:

High School: St. Augustine Prep, NJ
Graduation Year: 2012
Position: Midfielder
College Choice: Penn State University
Club Affiliation: Tri State
Major lacrosse honors: 2011 Honorable Mention All-State, 2011 Under Armour Underclassmen Team New Jersey
Academic honors: National Spanish Honor Society
What will you major in/study? Business

Why did you choose school? “I chose Penn State because of what they have to offer from the great academics to all the great athletics, and I love being part of the big college atmosphere.

“Also, [head] coach [Jeff] Tambroni, [assistant] coach [Peter] Toner, and [assistant] coach [Chris] Doctor were all very welcoming when I visited last fall. They made me feel part of the Penn State Lacrosse family.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year? “Our team is focused on winning the Non-Public Group A state championship. That is our main objective coming into this season. After falling short the past two years in the finals, we believe our team is extremely capable of taking that next step.

“Our schedule is going to be much more competitive this year as we move into an independent schedule, so that will prepare us even more.”
