Lampeter-Strasburg rising senior attack/midfielder Bridget Hufnagel has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Temple University.

Hufnagel earned First Team Lancaster-Lebanon League honors in 2011, helping the Pioneers finish 8-8.

Hufnagel helps coach elementary and middle school girls during summer camp and winter lacrosse. She plays club lacrosse for X-Treme. She is vice president of the National Honor Society.

Hufnagel felt an immediate connection with Temple coach Bonnie Rosen and her staff, and the positive atmosphere in the lacrosse program.

“I chose Temple because I love Bonnie [Rosen] and Jen [Wong],” said Hufnagel. “They are great coaches and have wonderful input to give the girls. I met the team when I went for an unofficial visit this past winter, and they are all super talented and really nice.

“Also, one of the girls that is an upcoming senior there (Lauren Caminiti) helped coach my club team this summer, so I got to know her pretty well.”

The Owls finished 7-10 in 2011 and reached the Atlantic 10 Conference semifinals under Rosen, an alum of Harriton High School who was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2011.

Other rising seniors that have committed to Temple this year from X-treme are Cocalico midfielders Avery and Kari Longstaff and Manheim Township midfielder Megan Pinkerton. Also committed to Temple from Philly are Bishop Shanahan’s Summer Jaros (midfield) and Kathryn Skahan (attack), Villa Maria defender Maddie McTigue, Garnet Valley attack Kara Stroup, and North Penn attack Brenda McDermott.

“Three of my teammates from my club team committed to Temple shortly after I did,” said Hufnagel. “Megan Pinkerton and the Longstaff twins, Kari and Avery. I think it will be great to play with them in college and continue to improve our skills as players together with the help of some new coaches.”

Hufnagel said Lampeter-Strasburg is a program that continues to build.

“This past year we did really well,” said Hufnagel. “We placed second in our section but didn’t advance to states or leagues. I’m hoping to get more girls interested in the program at Lampeter-Strasburg and get everyone more excited about lacrosse.”
