Conestoga High School rising senior goalie Sarah Priem has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Marquette University.

Priem helped Conestoga finish 8-3 record in the Central League and advance to the second round of the state tournament in 2011. She was named US Lacrosse Academic All-American and Second Team Central League.

Priem, who has played club lacrosse for the Phantastix, has been chosen as a Conestoga captain for 2012.

Priem is the second Conestoga player to commit to Marquette, which begins intercollegiate play in 2012-13. Rising senior defender Jackie Borzillo also committed to Marquette.

“After visiting Marquette, I chose to commit there because I really enjoyed meeting with the coach and also loved the campus,” said Priem. “I thought the academics and the size of Marquette fit me well.

“I also liked the fact that my teammate, Jackie Borzillo, has also committed to Marquette. It will be nice to have somebody I already know and who I have played with for a while to continue playing on my team in college. I have also heard many positive things about Marquette and that made me want to go there even more.”

Other Conestoga rising seniors committed to play college lacrosse are: defender Emily Pillion (James Madison), attack Britta Hjelm (Yale) and midfielder Emily McAleer (Gettysburg). Rising junior Mackenzie Orr (midfielder) has committed to Navy.

The Pioneers, who finished 2011 with an overall record of 12-7, expect to be a major contender in 2012.

“I think that our 2011 season went well, and am excited for the 2012 season,” said Priem. “We have a lot of potential and a lot of good players. I will definitely miss playing with the seniors that led us this year. I think one of our team goals is trying to be one of the top teams in the Central League, and doing well in playoffs.”

Priem would like to thank her family for supporting her with her decision, as well as her coaches, Amy Orcutt and Meaghan McDugall, for helping with the entire recruitment process.
