St. Joseph’s Prep rising senior midfielder Blaine Fleming has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Marquette University.

St. Joeph's Prep's Blaine Fleming has committed to Marquette

Fleming was part of a St. Joseph’s Prep team that won the Catholic League title and advanced to the state finals in 2011. Fleming, who plays club lacrosse for Rebel Elite, was named Second Team All-Catholic League.

Marquette begins Division I play in the 2012-13 season, when Fleming arrives. The Golden Eagles will join the Big East conference in 2014.

“I’m glad to be a part of a new program, at the beginning of possibly something really big in the future,” said Fleming. “It’s a really good school, and it has the Jesuit philosophies that my high school has. It’s a great school, a great campus, and [head coach Joe] Amplo and [Top Assistant coach Stephen] Brundage are great coaches too.”

Fleming joins rising junior attack Anthony Marini (Notre Dame) as commits from St. Joe’s Prep. Recent Springfield-Delco graduate Dan Mojica (long stick midfielder) was the first Philly player to commit to Marquette.

St. Joseph’s Prep went 19-5 in 2011 and won its first league title in eight years. The Hawks fell to Conestoga in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association finals.

“It was probably our best team ever,” said Fleming. “We had great seniors, great leadership in that class, and we just had a solid team.

“Everyone loves playing everyday, and everyone loves everyone, basically. We went out to do what we had to do, and cut it short at the end.”

Fleming would like to see the same energy and triumph from 2011 follow through to his senior season.

“Hopefully we can make the state championship again and try to stay on top,” said Fleming.
