Springfield-Delco rising senior midfielder Maddy Lynch has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Princeton University and begin the admission process to attend the Ivy League school.

Springfield-Delco rising senior midfielder Maddy Lynch has committed to Princeton

Lynch was a First Team US Lacrosse All-America pick this year when she collected 87 goals, 26 assists 59 groundballs and 49 draw controls, helping the Cougars share the Central League title with three teams. Springfield-Delco finished 21-4 while reaching the District 1 semifinals and the state quarterfinals.

Lynch, who plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix, also earned US Lacrosse Academic All-American and played on the Philly 1 team at the National Tournament. She is ranked No. 3 in her class.

“I chose Princeton because I thought it would be the best fit for me overall,” said Lynch, who will play for Hall of Fame coach Chris Sailer (Haverford High alum). “The coaches are great and the campus is beautiful. Also, it was close to home, which was important to me.”

Lynch said the Cougars succeeded in 2011 despite fielding a young team and believes the team can contend for a state title in 2012. Springfield-Delco reached the state finals in 2010.

“Looking back on the 2011 season, I am very proud of how my team performed,” she said. “We were young and had big shoes to fill after graduating 11 seniors.

“I have high hopes for next year. We will only continue to improve, and I would love to get back to Hershey for the State Championship game.”

Note: Student athletes applying to Ivy League schools must continue through the admissions process
