Haverford School’s Nostrant named US Lacrosse Coach of the Year for the Philly region by the EPSLA

Haverford School’s John Nostrant has been named the Philadelphia region’s US Lacrosse Coach of the Year for 2011 by the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA).

Nostrant is being honored this year along with Phillylacrosse.com creator and editor, Chris Goldberg, who was named US Lacrosse Man of the Year in the Philly region (see story). The EPSLA, which serves as the local chapter of US Lacrosse, gives these awards yearly. These awards are voted on by the 87 participating schools.

Nostrant led his team to a perfect 23-0 season and recognition as the No. 1 boys’ high school team in the country by every media outlet. The Fords won the Inter-Ac League and Inter-Ac Invitational championships.

EPSLA President, Andy Hayes said, “It is a privilege to honor these recipients with these awards. Both John and Chris are most deserving and our membership is proud to have them involved with our chapter.”

Nostrant was inducted into the Philadelphia Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame this year. He has won over 300 games at the Haverford School in his 20 seasons and captured 11 Inter-Ac championships.

A graduate of Baldwinsville High (N.Y.), he starred at Washington College and played in the National Lacrosse League for the Baltimore Thunder (1986-91) and the Philadelphia Wings (1992-96).

He led the Fords to the state title in 2000 and 2005 and also was coach of the United States U-19 team that won the gold in 2008 in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada.

Nostrant also co-founded the “Checking for Cancer” Tournament, recognized as the top invitational boys’ tourney each spirng.
