Penn Charter rising senior attackman Shane Carr has committed to play lacrosse and entered the admissions process at Yale University.

Penn Charter's Shane Carr has committed to Yale
Carr was an Honorable Mention Inter-Ac League pick this year for the Quakers, helping them go 12-11 and advanced to the semifinals of the Inter-Ac Invitational. Carr had 45 goals and 30 assists. He plays club lacrosse for LB3 and also has played for the Duke’s L.C.

Carr has earned academic Honors all three years at Penn Charter and was named the Class of 1897 winner for his accomplishments as an all-around student athlete.

“When I went up to visit I met with (assistant) coach (Graham) Niemi and (rising senior) Colin Still, a PC graduate, and I really liked the guys,” said Carr. “The campus is awesome and I really enjoyed watching a football game.”

The Bulldogs have had consecutive 10-4 seasons under coach Andy Shay, who has taken the squad to the Ivy League playoffs in each season.

“They are making some noise in the Ivy League,” said Carr. “I got to see them beat Georgetown and I feel it’s a great group to play with.

Carr, who is helping coach LB3’s U15 team this summer, said the Quakers enjoyed a successful 2011 season against a national schedule. The highlights were wins over Texas state champion Coppell, Central League runner-up Garnet Valley and then an overtime win over Inter-Ac foe Germantown Academy in the quarterfinals of the Inter-Ac Invitational.

“We lost a lot of one-goal games that we felt we should have had, but I felt we picked it up toward the end of the year and we beat GA,” he said. “They had two big wins over us (in the regular season), so getting that win was definitely big because it got us into the Final Four of the Inter-Ac.”

*Note – As such with all Ivy League commitments, student-athletes will go through the regular admissions process with their respective universities, as no spot is guaranteed in each university.
