This is Chris Goldberg, Phillylacrosse.com Editor, out at Hershey as the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association game between defending champion Conestoga and St. Joseph’s Prep is about to begin.

The Weather is humid and overcast. But no rain!


First period

SJP- Hawks open with an early goal as Jeff Heath beats All-Amercan LSM Brian Dailey and get it past goalie John Lopes, 10:46
SJP- Blaine Fleming scores low on Lopes, 2-0 Hawks, 9:04
SJP- Tim O’Rourke beats Lopes high, 3-0. Conestoga calls TO, 8:17
C- Calls TO, hit with 3-minute stick penalty
C- Pioneers finally score as Connor Frisina beats sophomore AJ Simon while a man down, 6:19
C- Lopes makes a nice save, he is starting to settle down, 3:40
C- Bradlee Lord scores on acrobatic shot, 2;53 – SJP leads 3-2
C- Robbie Rose rips one past Simon, Pioneers seem back on track, 1:06
C-Lord rips one past Simon, :44 – Yes, Pioneers back on track
C-Zach Gregory wins another face-off over Jake O’Brien for Conestoga,but Tyler Brooke misses high, period ends

Conestoga leads 4-3

2nd period
C-Lopes stops Brad James on a high hard one, 11:06
C-Lopes stones Heathh, 9:40
C-Lord again from Jordan Klunder, 8:01; sophomore Simon is struggling – Conestoga 5-3
SJP- Simon stops Klunder in transition, nice save, 7:42
C-Tanner Scott makes it 6-3 on a man down, 6:57 – Conestoga is on a roll
C-Winning all the face-offs now
SJP- Simon makes a big save in tight, 5:38
SJP-Fleming called for penalty, Hawks call TO, 5:18
Both teams struggling to get good shots, defenses getting stronger
:45 left SJP has possession
:12 left in half, SJP still with possession after misfiring on Lopes twice

Halftime – Conestoga leads, 6-3, on 6-0 run

Observations: After starting out strong and taking 3-0 lead, the Hawks saw the offensive firepower of Conestoga take the game over … Pioneers began to control the draw and took open shots on Simon, who has five saves

2nd half
3rd period

C-Soph Robbie Zonino in the game in goal
C-Gregory wins FO
C-Rudd unassisted, 8:25 – Conestoga 7-3
C-Rudd scores again on a low shot after big check by Brian Dailey, 7:37, Simon is pulled for senior Liam Correia – Con 8-3
C-Tyler Brooke in transition from Scott, 5:55 – Starting to look like a blowout, Prep calls TO
Prep finally gains possession
SJP- Correia stops Lord in tight, 3:50
C-Zonino makes three straight saves n high-percentage shots, 2:50
C-Zonino another big save, 2:15
C-Flatley scores on shot from near midfield at buzzer, 10-3 Conestoga – He just let it go and Correia either never saw it or just missed it. Nope apparently Charlie Hildebrand deflected it past Correia. Either way it’s a back-breaker for the scuffling Hawks, who have not scored since early in the first period. Final word- it’s Flatley from Carson Scott

4th period

Conestoga has total control of the game.

C-Brooke from Kyle Morrison, 5:38 – It’s turning into a rout, 12-3
C-Rudd (from Flatley) with an unbelievable shot from down under, 4:31 – Now 13 straight goals fro Pioneers
SJP- Tim Browne breaks the streak for Prep, 4:21, now 13-4

Conestoga coach Brian Samson gets Gatorade dumped on his head early, 1;25 to play

Game over, Pioneers repeat as state champions, 13-4
