Boys’ lacrosse: Hill School tops Peddie (N.J.), 8-7, in Inter-Ac Invitational, draws No. 1 Haverford School; CHA falls to Lawrenceville

Peter Obberender scored the game-winning goal with a minute to play and Duncan Saunders made 17 saves at The Hill School egded Peddie School (N.J.), 8-7, today in the first round of the 3rd annual Inter-Ac Invitational at Episcopal Academy.

The ninth-seeded Blues (8-7) advance to play top-seeded and the nation’s top-ranked team, Haverford School (20-0) on Wednesday. Peddie, which beat Hill School, 6-4, earlier in the year, finished at 9-8.

The game today was an up-and-down contest that saw three lead changes. Hill went up, 2-0, on two quick goals by Gregor Davidheiser in the first period, but trailed, 3-2, with four minutes in the second period.

The Blues, though, scored in transition after strong team defense in the late stages of the second period to post a 4-3 halftime lead. The Blues led, 7-5, in the fourth period, but Peddie tied it until Obberender became the hero.

Hill salted away its 8-7 lead with timely possessions and several key saves by Saunders, who has committed to North Carolina. Tom Shade, Graham Conlan, Jimmy Ryan and Eric Nova led the Blues’ defense and six different players scored for Hill.

Lawrenceville School (N.J.) 13, Chestnut Hill Academy 5

Fourth-seeded Lawrenceville (16-2) downed No. 12 Chestnut Hill Academy (8-10) in the noon game as seniors Ehret Faircloth senior Mac Cordrey and Nick Ogden each scored two goals while seven others scored one each. Lawrenceville will host No. 5 Bullis School (Md.) at the site to be determined on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m..
