Girls’ lacrosse: Downingtown East routs Unionville to win outright Ches-Mont League championship

Ashley Poli and McKenzie Rafferty each tallied five goals while Emily Solenberger scored the 200th of her career as host Downingtown East celebrated Senior Night Thursday by coasting past Unionville, 17-5, to clinch the outright Ches-Mont League championship.

Downingtown East seniors (from left) playing in their final regular season game included Kelly Devlin (signed with North Carolina), Marya Fratoni (committed to UConn), Melissa Hummel (UMBC for soccer), Allie Murray (signed with Notre Dame, U-19 Team member), Ashley Poli (signed with West Chester), Emily Solenberger (sgned with Lehigh). The seniors also have played together with LYA Youth and PA Express.

The Cougars finished 11-0 in the league and 17-1 overall as they claimed their 15th straight victory. Ranked No. 1 in the PA Media Rankings, they are expected to get the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the District 1 tournament.

Solenberger had three goals and an assists and Haley Nelson added two goals while Kelly Devlin contributed a goal and four assists. Nicole Barretta scored once and Allie Murray made 13 saves for the win. Marya Fratoni also played in goal and had two saves.

Victoria Midiri, Taylor Hollander, Hannah Haskell, Rebecca Fieles and Victoria Miller scored for Unionville (8-10, 6-5).
