Germantown Academy junior attackman Reid Weber had made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University.

Germantown Academy junior attackman Reid Weber has committed to Lehigh

Weber has scored 68 goals this year for a team that is 14-4 overall and placed third in the rugged Inter-Ac League while being nationally ranked for much of the year. Weber plays club lacrosse for LB3.

Weber plans to study Business at Lehigh.

“I was interested in Lehigh ever since I was 14 years old and came up for the (Lehigh) Shootout,” said Weber. “I always thought it would a place I’d want to go, so I set my sights on it and pursued it and it finally happened. I really like the academics.”

Weber also was impressed with the Mountain Hawks’ coaching staff, led by head coach Kevin Cassese.

“I just love his energy,” Weber said. Coach Cassese is always upbeat and I love the way he runs the program. I went to two games this year and they run an up-tempo style.

“The players are very hard-working and I like the way he pushes his players. That’s what I was looking for.”

Weber will join three other Philly juniors that have committed to Lehigh, including La Salle defenseman Casey Eidenshink, Radnor midfielder Ben Junior, and Strath Haven goalie Steve Brodeur.

Weber said his Patriots have a goal of making it to the finals of the Inter-Ac Invitational.

“We want to make it to the championship game,” he said. “If we get to play Haverford School again, we have to capitalize on all our opportunities because you don’t get a lot against them.”

Weber said its been exciting to see the Patriots make great improvement in the past few years. Two years ago the squad was 6-12 and last year they were 9-8. This year they have made national headlines.

“This is what makes the success so sweet,” he said. “We have all been starting since our sophomore year and we took our beatings,” he said. “We have grown together. Just the experience of being able to play with each other for three years has allowed us to come together as a unit.”

Weber wished to thank Germantown Academy coach David Martin and the coaches at LB3, the Banks brothers and John Banks.
