Mount Sinai (N.Y.) High School junior goalie Marina Venezia has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University.
Venezia plans to major in Chemical Engineering at Lehigh.
Venezia, who plays for the Long Island Yellow Jackets club team, will join fellow Suffolk County recruit Victoria Kotowski (Cold Spring Harbor) at Lehigh.
“I chose Lehigh because it was a good academic school and that was really important to me,” said Venezia.
“My visit went really well. I really liked the coaches and all of the girls too. I had met a few of them when I went for a 7 V 7 scrimmage, and I met a few more when I went back up for another clinic.”
Lehigh made it to the Patriot League Semifinal this season, but lost to Navy. Overall its record was 10-7.
Venezia was all-Division in her 2010 season. Academically she has been on the superintendent’s list, just recently made National Honor Society, and has received the scholar athlete award.
She also considered Amherst College, Bryant University, Rochester, Trinity College, Washington and Lee, and Yale.
Venezia has helped the Mustangs to a 9-3 start this year.
“We want to make it to playoffs,” she said. “We then want to continue on to the long Island championship and make it up to Cortland for States.”
