Salesianum School (DE) junior defenseman Justin Verratti has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Loyola University (MD).

Salesianum School junior defenseman Justin Verratti has committed to Loyola

Verratti, who attended St. Joseph’s Prep his sophomore year, was selected to the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Showcase in June while being named to the Fab 40 squad at the Philly Showcase. In the summer he plays club lacrosse for HEADstrong Elite.

Verratti, a first honors student, chose Loyola for its outstanding academic reputation. He plans on majoring in Business or History; Loyola’s business school is nationally ranked.

The Greyhounds are 8-4 this year.

The distance of Loyola’s campus and his home was a good fit.

“It’s close enough for my parents to come see my games as well as being far enough to feel like I am on my own,” Verratti said.

His visits to the campus allowed him to get a good feel of what it’s like to be a Division I player.

“On my visit I was able to see the team scrimmage against North Carolina,” Verratti said. “It was definitely an eye-opener.”

Verratti’s teammate, senior defenseman Ryan Kilpatrick, has signed with UNC.

Verratti will be joining class of 2011 long stick midfielder Alek Klincewicz (Lower Merion). Also, the Greyhounds roster sports two Philly alums, freshman midfielder Austin Rogusky (Conestoga).

The Sallies started off the season with a 9-8 loss to Worcester Prep School (MD), but have won their last eight games.

“We’re definitely expecting to win a state championship,” Verratti said. “It’s something that we feel like we can definitely do.”
