MC Curran scored five goals while Blake McHugh and Taylor Trimble each had four goals and an assist as visiting Episcopal Academy held off Notre Dame, 14-13, today in an Inter-Ac League girls’ lacrosse showdown.

EA – ranked No. 7 in the PA Media Rankings – improved to 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the Inter-Ac. The Irish – ranked No. 2 in the state – fell to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Episcopal Academy held a 7-5 halftime lead and then bolted to a 12-5 advantage with only 13 minutes to play. The Irish chipped away and still trailed, 14-10, with minutes to play before scoring the final three goals to draw within 14-13.

Episcopal Academy, the six-time Inter-Ac champion, has won the last four meetings between the two teams by one goal. Last year it won, 13-12, and 15-14 and in 2009 it defeated the Irish, 13-12, in the second meeting between the two rivals.

“This indeed was a great victory for our girls,” said EA coach Kim Piersall. “I am pleased with our girls’ composure in the closing minutes to preserve the win.”

Meghan Hubley and Maggie Forker paced the EA defense and Lindsey Reder made 10 saves.

Carlianne McCabe had five goals and one assist to lead Notre Dame. Delaney Tuite added three goals and Kristen Bandos had a goal and four assists. Katie Gerzabek (3 draw controls, 3 groundballs, 2 caused turnovers) and Nora McCallion (2dc, 2gb, 1ct) paced the Notre Dame defense.
