Spring-Ford junior attack Maddie Ward has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts.

Spring-Ford junior Maddie Ward has committed to UMass

Ward chose UMass because of the campus, the academics and the lacrosse squad.

“The campus is pretty huge and I loved the feel of it,” she said. “It was the first campus that I had that sense that I did not want to go anywhere else. I knew I belonged there.”

Ward clicked right away with the team and with coach Angela McMahon. “The coaches were down to earth, had great lacrosse knowledge, and were extremely nice to me,” said Ward. “And I felt like I could have really good team chemistry with all of the girls.”

Ward, a distinguished honors student, is undecided on a major

During her time at Spring-Ford, Ward has seen great success. She has scored 80 goals over her freshman and sophomore seasons and was team captain as a sophomore. She made second team All PAC-10 as a freshman and second team All-Area as a sophomore.

Ward plays for PA Express and has played for Dynamite Lacrosse in the past.

“My experience at Spring-Ford has really helped me develop as a player,” said Ward. “Our team has had a different head coach each year so it’s been hard to get into a groove, but this year I am really confident in the coaching staff and our girls.

“The energy has been really good at our practices and it’s a lot more competitive than it has been in previous years.”
