Saturday’s boys’ high school roundup: GA tops Brunswick (CT), Malvern falls to Landon in OT

Billy Oppenheimer had four goals and an assist and Jake Adoni made 16 saves in goal as Germantown Academy defeated visiting Brunswick School (CT), 8-5, today in boys’ lacrosse.

Connor Crump had a goal and two assists for the Patriots while Beau Jones and Reid Weber each had a goal and an assist. George Robinson scored once.

Landon (MD) 8, Malvern Prep 7, OT

Host Landon (Md.) rallied for a thrilling victory, scoring the game-winner 20 seconds into OT.

Malvern Prep (1-1) led, 6-3, after three periods, but saw the Bears tie it with 4 minutes left. The Friars (1-1) entered play as the No. 25 team in the ESPN RISE Powerade Fab 50 Rankings. Landon was No. 34.

Keith Dreyer led Malvern Prep with three goals and two assists while, Mike Dougherty, Chris Hilburn, PJ Finley (4 of 5 face-offs) and Graeme Weaver each scored once. Russell Atkinson contributed two assists while Matt Barrett had five saves and Ryan McDevitt had three saves as the two split time in the goal.

Avon Grove 10, Lower Merion 4

Trevor Hornby scored four goals to lead Avon Grove in its opener.

The Aces (0-2) got two goals from Chris Daly.

Shipley 15, Wilmington (NC) 7

The Gators (2-0) continued their Southern trip with a win as Julius Mouser scored five goals and added three assists.

Ian McGibbon had eight saves for Shipley and Mike Litner had two goals and three assists while Tyler Walsh scored twice and Andrew Wofford, Matt Gagnier and Carter Burch each scored once.

Allentown Central Catholic 10, Central Bucks East 8

Matt Brodzik, Brenden Coleman and Chris Vetter each had two goals for CB East in its opening-day defeat.

Warren Kuhn and Ryan Whitney also scored one each and Wes French and Zac Bitzer paced the defense. Nick Andris and McSherry combined for nine saves. ACC overcame a 4-1 first-period deficit and outscored the Pats, 3-1, in the final frame.

Harriton 10, Devon Prep 3

Jimmy DiCicco poured in four goals and Avery Levonuk had two goals and an assist for the Rams in the consolation game of the Icebreaker Tournament.

Andrew Fletcher scored twice for the Tide.

Cardinal O’Hara 7, Haverford High 6

Ed McLoughlin scored four goals to lift the Lions in their opener.

Mike Layden paced the Fords with three goals.

Archbishop Carroll 16, Upper Darby 0

Brian Keith scored three goals while Tim Keith, Mike Carr, Cullin Martin, Ryan Boornzian and Sean Roberts each scored twice for the Patriots. Tom Mitchell (two saves) earned the shutout.

New Hope-Solebury 17, William Allen 1

John Cimbalista tied the school scoring record with his 84th career goal and collected four goals and four assists while Jeff Cimbalista added four goals and three assists for the Lions in their opener.

St. Mary’s Annapolis (MD) 12, Manheim Township 11

The Blue Streaks (1-1), ranked No. 5 in the PIAA in the PA media Rankings, suffered a heartbreaking loss at the 5-0 Saints.

Emmaus 13, Mt. Lebanon 11

Dan Kinek had three goals and two assists and Travis Schmidt added three goals and an assist to lead the Hornets (1-1).
