March 23, 2011 by Chris Goldberg

Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 3/23/11

This is one of a series of previews for the 2011 Philly lacrosse season

Team: Methacton

Coach: Nathanael Ryan, 2nd season

Last year’s record: 10-7

Key returnees:
Scott Markle, Defense, 1st team All-League
Cody Ridgway, Attack, 2nd Team All League, committed to Eastern
Anthony DeSana, Defense, 2nd Team All League, signed with Seton Hill
Sean Aronow, Attack
Clay Sobocinski, Attack
Eli Miller, Midfield, 2nd Team All League
Sam McAdoo, Midfield
Alex Roese, Defense, LSM
Ryan Murphy, Goalie, committed to Gwynedd-Mercy
Gabe Ferraro, LSM
Zach Roumaya, Defense

Key newcomers:
Kyle Rioboli, Midfield
Pete Alloway, Midfield
Will Johnson, Midfield
Colin Pauline, Midfield
Matt McClay, Midfield
Andrew DeSana, Defense
Matt Brasher, Midfield

Coach’s Outlook for 2011 season:
“Defensively we have both size and athleticism and will be tough on that side of the ball. In the midfield, we look to senior leaders and new faces and at attack we return three senior starters including the top two scorers. No doubt returning senior face-off specialist, Eli Miller who won over 60% of his face-offs last year will be able to generate possessions and opportunities on the offensive side of the ball. Overall we have high expectations both in terms of a competitive league and non-league schedule.”

Team: Harriton

Coach: Richard Owens, 2nd season

Key returnees:
Haddon Corbett, Senior, Defense
Matt MacKnight, Junior, LSM
Jake Marks, Sophomore, Goalie
Alex Todorow, Junior, Midfield

Key newcomers:
Ben Simms, Senior, Attack
Avery Levonuk, Junior, Attack
Scott Scheuerle, Freshman, Midfield

Coach’s Outlook for 2011 season:
“Everyone is working hard and we are progressing every day. We are going to be a young team, with perhaps six freshmen on the squad. But the boys are developing good team chemistry. It will be tough starting off the season without our best offensive threat (Zach Fink – knee injury). However, we have players who are capable of filling the void until he returns, and we will have a little more offensive balance this season.
We have a blend of youth and experience on defense, and I want that to be one of our areas of strength this season.”
