Ohio State freshman face-off specialist Shawn Kaplan (Plymouth Whitemarsh) has been named the ECAC Lacrosse League Co-Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Kaplan won 9-of-11 faceoffs in the Buckeyes’ 6-5 triple overtime win at Penn State Saturday.
Kaplan did not lose a face-off in the second half or overtime, winning all three draws in both the third and fourth quarters and the opening face-off in each overtime period. He won the face-off and picked up the groundball in the third overtime, giving Ohio State control of the ball on the game’s last possession. He also had a team game high and personal-best six groundballs in the game.
Kaplan has won 22-of-40 faceoffs on the year and is second on the team with 11 groundballs.
Kaplan and the No. 13/16 Buckeyes (4-1) are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday night when they host Lehigh (3-1) in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
