Women’s lacrosse roundup: Villanova edges La Salle, 6-5, on last-minute goal; Temple falls

Shannon Lane scored with 30 seconds to play off a feed from Maria Bowman tonight, lifting Villanova to a thrilling 6-5 victory over host La Salle in a women’s lacrosse game.

The Wildcats (3-1) had seized a 5-4 second-half lead on consecutive goals by Katie Callopy and Carolina Guidera. But La Salle (2-2) tied it, 5-5, with 5:36 to play on a tally by Taylor Ruland.

Villanova had forged a 3-0 lead early on after goals by Rachel Lasda, Ali Judge and Bowman. But the Explorers scored three unanswered goals before the half by Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown), Lauren McDermott (North Penn) and Maggie O’Ferrall.

La Salle then took a 4-3 lead early in the second half on a goal by Jackie Roebuck (Marple Newtown).

Julia Todd made eight saves in goal for Villanova.

UC Davis 15, Temple 7

Kellee Pace (Chichester) had a goal and an assist for the host Owls (1-2) in defeat.

Louisville 15, Oregon 13

Freshman Colleen O’Malley (Great Valley) had a goal and two draw controls for the Cardinals (3-0). Louisville’s top scorer, Bergan Foley (Gwynedd Mercy Academy), did not score, but snared two draw controls and one groundball.
