Perkiomen Valley senior attackman Peter Sclafani has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Ursinus College.

Perkiomen Valley senior Peter Sclafani has committed to Ursinus

Sclafani earned Second Team Pioneer Athletic Conference honors last year when he helped the Vikings finish 12-7. He plays club lacrosse for team Twist.

Sclafani, a Distinguished Honor student this year, plans on majoring in History Education with aspirations of becoming a high school teacher. His visits to Ursinus’ campus enabled him to get a good feel for the school and, most importantly, the team.

“I had a lot of fun with team, they really took me in,” he said. “They made me feel like I was a part of the team.”

Sclafani was noticed by the Ursinus coaching staff while playing in a tournament for Twist. The Bears’ head coach is Jamie Steele.

“Playing in the tournament helped me get recognized by the coaching staff at Ursinus,” he said. “(Assistant) Coach (Gary) Mercadante called me and was very welcoming.”

Sclafani will be joined at Ursinus by close friend and teammate Dave Duryea, a long stick midfielder. Also, Steele landed Manheim Township midfielder Mark Stratton.

Perkiomen Valley advanced to the league playoffs last year, and Sclafani envisions an even better outcome this year.

“We want to compete for a playoff spot and fight to make it as far as we can,” he said. “If we work to our full potential we can accomplish good things.”
