From Press Releases and Staff Reports

The Denver Outlaws announced Thursday that former Wings great-coach and Barrage coach Tony Resch will serve as an assistant coach through the 2011 season under new head coach Tom Slate.

Resch will be entering his first year with the Outlaws organization as assistant coach. Resch brings championship experience to the table, as he was the head coach for the 2006 and 2007 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) champion Philadelphia Barrage.

During his tenure with the Barrage he was also named MLL Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2008. This move reunites Resch with his former assistant coach Slate, a Springfield-Delco alum and former coach at Downingtown East. The two coached together from 2005 to 2008.

“I am thrilled to have Tony as part of the Outlaws organization.” general manager Brian Reese said, “He is the most decorated coach in the professional ranks and has had success at every level he coached. Coach Slate and I have been fortunate to play under Tony and are happy to have him involved with the team.”

In 2010, Resch was also named the assistant coach for Team USA, the same team that took home the gold in last summer’s Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Lacrosse Championships. Other coaching experience comes from the National Lacrosse League, where Resch coached the Philadelphia Wings and led the team to four championships between 1994 -2001. He is currently the Athletics Director for La Salle College High School in Pennsylvania where he serves as the defensive coordinator for the Varsity Lacrosse Team.

The rest of the Outlaws, under the direction of their new coaches, begin their season at INVESCO Field at Mile High on Saturday, May 14 against the Hamilton Nationals at 7 p.m.
