Women’s college roundup: Jeffers (Springfield-Delco), Fay (Villa Maria Academy) lead Delaware past La Salle

Julianna Jeffers (Springfield-Delco) scored three goals while freshman Chelsea Fay (Villa Maria Academy) and Corrine Drost added a pair each as visiting Delaware toppled La Salle today in Division I women’s lacrosse.

Bridget Burns (Notre Dame) had a goal and an assist for the Hens while Kalyn McDonough (Unionville) added a goal, two groundballs and two draw controls. Nicole Flego (Central Bucks East) scored once for the Hens (1-1).

Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) led the Explorers (0-1) with two goals, while Lauren McDermott (North Penn) and Sam Turskie (Springfield-Delco) scored once each.

Villanova 16, Bryant 8

Justine Donodeo led the Wildcat offense on opening-day with four goals and three assists while Maria Bowman contributed a hat trick and an assist.

Lehigh 13, Marist 8

Kelly Draper scored five goals and Megan Kelly added three for the Mountain Hawks in their opener.

Loyola 15, Virginia 8

Cara Filippelli (Archbishop Carroll) had a goal and an assist to go with two groundballs and a caused turnover to help the No. 12 Greyhounds stun No. 7 Virginia in their opener.

Defender Marghi Walters (Penn Charter) led UVA with two groundballs and a caused turnover.

Johns Hopkins 19, George Mason 9

Sammi Arbitman (Episcopal Academy) led the Blue Jays’ defense with a caused turnover in their opener while Emily Ellisen (Great Valley) led George Mason (0-2) with three goals and an assist.

Fairfield 11, Monmouth 6

Molly O’Brien (Unionville) had two goals and two assists to lead Monmouth in its opener.
