Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) junior midfielder Victoria Kotowski has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University.

Cold Spring Harbor (NY) junior MF Victoria Kotowski has committed to Lehigh

Kotowski was a key member of a squad that finished 11-7 and reached the Class B finals of Section 8 last year. She plays club lacrosse for Team Elevate, founded by her father, Dave Kotowski.

Kotowski plans to study Political Science and hopes to become a lawyer.

“I chose Lehigh because it was exactly what I was looking for,” she said. “It is a great school academically, the campus is beautiful, and the coaching staff and team played a huge role in my college decision.”

She also considered Brown, Johns Hopkins, and Penn.

Kotowski will play for Lehigh coach Jill Redfern, a graduate of Ursinus College. Last year Redfern led the Mountain Hawks to a 14-4 record and a berth in the Patriot League finals.

“The Lehigh coaching staff is incredible,” Kotowski said. “I am so excited to be coached by JIll Redfern and (assistant) Kelley Putnam. They both have such great energy.

“On my visit, the team had such great things to say about them. I think it’s very important to have positive coaching in any sport, so I feel very lucky to have two of the best coaches to play for in college.”

Cold Spring Harbor senior midfielder Michelle Abramacyk also has signed with Lehigh.

Kotowski said the Seahawks have high expectations for 2011. Last year she had the game-winner with 1 second to play to lift Cold Spring Harboro past North Shore in the Class B semifinals.

“I have been on varsity since 8th grade, and each year we have just missed being County Champions,” she said. “This year, I not only want to win at Counties, but move on to become Long Island Champs.”
