Arcadia University adds D3 men’s lacrosse as varsity sport; team set to begin in 2012-13

Arcadia University has added men’s lacrosse as a Division III varsity sport and plans to begin play in the 2012-13 year, Athletic Director Shirley Liddle said today.

The university posted the position of a full-time men’s coach and will continue to run a club program this year and next year in preparation for an NCAA team that will compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference in 2013, Liddle said.

“The position was literally just approved for advertisement,” said Liddle. “We will interview In January and February and the program will remain a club through next year so that the coach can have two recruiting cycles before we are an NCAA program.”

Liddle said the university intends to put turf on its existing field. It also could build a new field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following functions which, are not listed in any particular order of importance or significance:

Recruiting: identifies prospective student-athletes qualified for admission to Arcadia University, effectively communicates with prospective student-athletes; effectively communicates and coordinates recruitment efforts with Arcadia’s Office of Enrollment Management.

Coaching/Student-Athlete Experience: demonstrates knowledge of, and ability to develop, sport skills, strategies and philosophy; promotes student-athlete welfare and provides appropriate mentoring to student-athletes and assistant coach.

Program Administration: operates within all University, Commonwealth Athletic Conference and NCAA III guidelines; schedules practices; maintains inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies; carry out team travel according to established policies and procedures; effectively communicates within the Department and with the University community on matters pertaining to program. Will work with the Department of Athletics to secure playing and practice facilities off campus for the team.

Department Equipment Manager: maintains working order of the department’s athletic equipment including but not limited to organizing storage areas, laundry areas, and general use areas.

Supervision: identifies, hires, trains and evaluates assistant coach, including volunteers; ensures that assistant coach/volunteer adhere to all university, Commonwealth Athletic Conference and NCAA III guidelines. How to Apply:

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred. Two to three years experience in coaching at the college level or significant experience coaching at the high school or club level, or equivalent required and/or collegiate playing experience. Experience in start-up programs a plus. Ability to recruit outstanding student-athletes to a strong academic environment.
