Owen J. Roberts senior defender Allie Campbell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division II lacrosse at Bloomsburg University.

Campbell was an Honorable Mention Pioneer Athletic Conference pick in 2010, helping the Wildcats finish 11-8 and qualify for the District 1 tournament. She plays club lacrosse for the West Chester Blitz team.

Campbell plans to study exercise science or education at Bloomsburg.

“It was a little bit of everything,” she said. “The campus is beautiful and not too far or close to home, and the school has what I want academically.”

Last year the Huskies went 13-6 under fourth-year coach Leigh Quigley Carr (Methacton graduate) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Carr has guided the Huskies to three straight PSAC playoff appearances and was also named the 2009 PSAC Eastern Division Coach of the Year.

Another Philly girls, North Penn defender Carly Ball, also signed with Bloomsburg.

“The team was really nice and I felt very comfortable with them,” said Campbell. “Coach Carr was very helpful through the whole process and was a really positive impact on my decision. Signing was the obvious thing to do for me.”

Carr also is heavily involved in extra activities at OJR. She was a member of a community service project for DECA (Distributive Education Club of America) that placed third at states and made the top 16 at nationals. She also served as one of the two coordinators for the Kick for a Cure Charity event that was created by recent Owen J. Roberts grad and teammate Nicole Miller.

Campbell is the second OJR senior to sign to play college lacrosse. Emily Kolsevich (attack) has signed with Louisville. Campbell – who was second on the team in groundballs and draw controls last year – is confident the Wildcats will contend in the PAC-10.

“This year’s senior class is very strong and very close,” she said. “We have some talented underclassmen bringing a lot to the table and I definitely think that this could be our year for the title.

“It would be great to go out strong and I think we have the right combination for it.”
