Haverford School senior goalie Colin Heffernan has committed to Dartmouth

Haverford School senior goalie Colin Heffernan has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Dartmouth College.

Heffernan was a key contributor on a Fords team last year that went 20-4 and tied for the Inter-Ac League championship, while also winning the Inter-Ac Invitational and finishing fifth in the final Lacrosse Magazine national rankings.

Heffernan, a consistent Honor Roll student, called Dartmouth the Ivy League’s “best kept secret.” At Dartmouth, he will join Haverford School alumnus and junior Ben Rossman, a starting defenseman.

“I like the atmosphere there,” Heffernan said of the Hanover, N.H. campus. ““What attracted me was the camaraderie of the team and potential of the program. The coaches are fully committed to the players’ success both in the classroom and on the lacrosse field.

“I also liked the intensity of their practices. I visited in the fall and the players were out there yelling and getting rowdy while enjoying lacrosse. That kind of intensity is contagious.”

Heffernan is one of 11 seniors and 16 Haverford School players overall to commit to play Division I lacrosse.

Other seniors to commit or sign with Division I programs are Chris Hupfeldt (attackman, Penn), Joe McCallion (FO/midfielder, Penn) Conor Kelly (goalie, Notre Dame), Goran Murray (LSM, Maryland), Carl Walrath (midfielder, Virginia), Brendan McGrath (midfielder, Princeton), Alex Beatty (defenseman, Princeton) and Matt Walters (midfielder, Syracuse), Brent Tomlinson (attackman, Brown) and Grove Stewart (midfielder, Harvard).

“I am very excited about next season, but we still have a lot of work to do,” Heffernan said. “We have the talent, but we won’t go far if we don’t continue to work hard. Having the potential is only half the job.”

Heffernan also is proud to have been a member of the Haverford School Notables, a popular a capella group. He plans to participate in a musical this year.

Heffernan, who also played club lacrosse for Seven Nations, wished to thank Haverford School head coach John Nostrant for helping in his recruiting process. He also thanked assistant coaches Travis Loving (goalie coach) and Mark Petrone and former coaches Dave Metzbower and Doug Knight, as well as his parents and the Haverford lacrosse parents.
