North Penn senior attack Garrie Grenfell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division II lacrosse at Shippensburg University.

Grenfell scored 31 goals in 2010, helping the Maidens finish 19-4 and win the Suburban One Continental Conference title.

Grenfell only made her decision to attend Shippensburg after her visit. “Ironically, Shippensburg started out as number three on my list, but then I went on my official visit and fell in love,” she said.

“Head coach Mia Hall was thrilled to have me come and meet her and the team. She and the girls were really welcoming and made a big difference in my decision with their enthusiasm about me being a part of the team!”

Hall, a Pottsgrove graduate, is in her second year as Shippensburg head coach.

Grenfell, an honors student, has not selected a major yet but is leaning towards communications. “The past three years I have taken various journalism courses at North Penn and they are my favorite classes,” she said.

North Penn has made state tourney each of past two years and won or shared Suburban one title last four years.

“Our success comes from the whole team’s dedication I think,” noted Grenfell. “We are all working for the same goal, and the coaching staff is always about going far and being committed to the team.”

Grenfell, a player for Ultimate Goal Lacrosse, has high hopes for the upcoming season.

“North Penn is made up of a very close group of girls and we work hard together to reach our goals,” she said. “We’ve been practicing all through the summer, just getting the younger girls involved.”

“The team is really looking good this year; I think we can definitely go far!”
