Strath Haven junior goaltender Steve Brodeur has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University.

Strath Haven junior goalie Steve Brodeur has committed to Lehigh

Brodeur was a Second Team Central League pick last year for the Panthers, who advanced to the District 1 tournament. Brodeur, who plays club lacrosse for Twist, played in the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse association Showcase in June.

Brodeur, an Honor student, also considered Bucknell, Georgetown, Drexel, and Fairfield. He hopes to major in Environmental Science at Lehigh, coached by Kevin Cassese.

“I chose Lehigh because of its academic excellence,” Brodeur said. “I really liked coach Cassese and his staff, and I’m excited to work with coach (Brendan) Callahan, the goalie coach.

“The size of the school is perfect for me, and the campus is really nice. After my visit to Lehigh I knew that I wanted to go there.”

  • Brodeur is confident Lehigh is primed to become a Division I playoff contender.

“Lehigh is a program on the rise and they definitely have the potential to (reach) national prominence,” he said. “They have the coaching and talent to do so, and I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve this goal.

Brodeur also believes the Panthers can be a factor in the Central League race in 2011.

“This year we will have a lot of leadership on defense,” he said. “We lost some scorers on offense due to graduation, but we have a lot of young guys looking to step up this year and fill those spots. If we work hard I think we could have a really good season.”

Brodeur wished to thank Strath Haven head coach Dave Waldman and assistant coach Mike Miller as well as Twist Lacrosse Club.
