Navy coach Cindy Timchal (Haverford High) and the Navy women’s lacrosse program have announced the hiring of Jackie DePetris (Archbishop Carroll) as a volunteer assistant coach.
DePetris comes to Navy after a successful playing career at Syracuse.
“We are very lucky to have Jackie at the Naval Academy,” said Timchal. “She is coming off captaining Syracuse to a the NCAA Final Four and was a tremendous leader for their program and will gain valuable college coaching experience here at Navy.”
“I am honored to become a part of the Navy lacrosse family,” said DePetris. “I am really excited to start and am looking forward to working with one of the best coaching staffs in the country.”
DePetris will assist with many aspects of the Navy women’s lacrosse program, including individual workouts, on-campus recruiting, video breakdown, scouting reports, day-to-day operations, clinics and camps.
During her four-year playing career at Syracuse, DePetris helped lead the Orange to NCAA Final Four appearances. She was elected team captain as a senior in 2010 and scored a career-best 28 goals while leading Syracuse to a 15-7 record and a spot in the Final Four.
In 2008, DePetris scored 21 goals to help guide the Orange to its first NCAA Final Four and the team also made NCAA Quarterfinals appearances in 2007 and 2009.
The Orange also won two BIG EAST regular season titles and a pair league tournament championships during DePetris’ career.
In total, DePetris played in 65 games over four seasons at Syracuse and scored 66 points (55g, 10a), while leading the Orange to a 60-21 (.741) record.
“Jackie will be a great asset to the Navy women’s lacrosse program. She is a student of the game has a great understanding of the offensive side of the ball,” said Syracuse head coach Gary Gait, a former assistant under Timchal at Maryland.
A May 2010 graduate of Syracuse, DePetris earned a dual major in psychology and health and exercise science and was selected to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in each of her four seasons.
DePetris is a native of Radnor.
Navy is coming off a 2010 Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The Mids were 17-4 in 2010 and own a 43-13 (.767) record in just three years as a varsity program.
