Bishop Shanahan's Colleen Holmes has committed to Long Island

reach the District 1 tournament.

“I have always wanted to attend a school in the city, and I can’t wait to spend my next four years in New York,” said Holmes. “The girls were so fun and welcoming on my visit. I felt right at home both on the campus and with the team.”

At LIU Holmes will be coached by Heather Levins, the third year head mentor of the Blackbirds. “The coaches are awesome and I love the intensity that they bring to practice,” said Holmes of her visit.

A member of the National Honors Society and a four-year honor student, Holmes plans to major in nursing.

“I have been interested in the medical field since I was young,” she said. “I know that the clinical experience that I will receive in Brooklyn will prepare me for whatever field of nursing my future may hold.”

Holmes is also a part Spanish Honors Society, represents female athletics as a whole on the Leadership Council at Bishop Shanahan and is captain of the varsity tennis team.

She joins two of her Shanahan teammates as Division I recruits: Hannah Goforth (Villanova) and Casey Briglia (Duquesne).

At Shanahan, Holmes helped her squad earn the Most Improved Team in Philly by the Pennsylvania Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association.

“We had set this goal from the beginning, and worked so hard in the off season,” said Holmes, who also plays for SEPA club. “We achieved this goal through our unity.

“We have an incredible group of close-knit girls, and although we graduated a few key players, I have the highest of hopes for the upcoming season.

“This is our year.”
