The Second Annual Nick Colleluori Women’s Lacrosse Classic will have a strong Philly flavor.
Not only is the event being hosted by Hofstra and head coach Abby Morgan – a Great Valley graduate – but this year two Philly teams, La Salle and Temple, have been added to the field.
The event will be held on Saturday, September 25 at James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, New York. It benefits the HEADstrong Foundation and its drive to raise money for blood cancer research, awareness and treatment in the name of Ridley graduate and Hofstra student-athlete Nick Colleluori – who passed away four years ago after fighting Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
The tournament featured 12 teams last year and has grown to 15 squads this year.
“We are once again honored and proud to serve as hosts of the Nick Colleluori Women’s Lacrosse Classic,” said Morgan. “Last year’s event raised $32,000 to support the HEADstrong Foundation and we hope to have as much, if not more, of an impact this year as well.”
Participating in the tournament will be 13 NCAA Division I and II teams: Hofstra, Adelphi, CW Post, Bentley, Iona, La Salle, Long Island University, Stonehill, Temple, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont and a pair of post-collegiate teams (New York Athletic Club and Long Island Squids).
Each squad will play four games and the schedule of the contests will be announced at a later date. Each team will be provided with lime green laces to be worn during the tournament to show their support.
In addition to a great day of lacrosse, there will also be a variety of items associated with the HEADstrong Foundation for sale, including the lime green laces. All funds raised during the tournament will go directly to the HEADstrong Foundation.
Nick Colleluori was a member of the Pride Lacrosse team from 2004 to 2006 and graduated from Ridley in 2004.
