Central Bucks East rising senior defenseman Weston French has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y.

French was a First team Suburban One Continental pick in 2010 for a Patriots team that shared the conference crown with Hatboro-Horsham and advanced to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament. French plays club lacrosse for Twist.

French, an Honor Roll student, plans to major in Business.

“I liked the campus and the fact it was in a small college town,” French said. “I liked all the coaches and the college atmosphere it gave off.”

Siena went 8-0 last year to claim the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular-season title, but fell to Mount St. Mary’s, 7-6, on a goal as time expired in regulation in the MAAC finals. The Saints are coached by Brian Brecht.

“The first thing I saw was that it was a good business school,” said French. “And I know that had been winning a lot (22 straight league wins before the title-game defeat) and that played a major part in it. I figured it would be my best chance of making it into the NCAA tournament and that’s always something I have dreamed about.”

French expects the Patriots – who were 16-5 last year as the No. 6 team out of District 1 – to again be a contender for the league title and district honors.

“We should do just as well this year,” he said. “The senior class is really good and we’ll have some juniors that should step up.”
