Recent Springfield-Delco graduate Kimmy McCormick (defender) has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.

McCormick earned second-team Central League and Academic All-American honors this season, helping the Cougars share the Central League crown with Radnor and Strath Haven while finishing second both in the District 1 and Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) tournaments.

McCormick, who played club lacrosse for the Phantastix, will major in Health and Physical Education and plans to become a teacher.

“I really like the (lacrosse) program,” said McCormick, a member of the National Honor Society and the National World Language Society. “I liked coach (Denise) Wescott and I felt like I fit in.”

In her first year this season, Wescott led Monmouth to a 9-9 season, including a 7-2 mark in the Northeast Conference.

McCormick will join Radnor’s Allison Heath (defender) as freshman recruits. Other Philly players on the roster include rising junior Olivia Salata (Archbishop Carroll) and rising junior Molly O’Brien (Unionville).

McCormick said the Cougars met all expectations in 2010.

“We got further in the state playoffs and it was a great opportunity to be able to play in the state finals,” she said. “We improved a lot as the season went along. I am real proud of the team.”
