Garnet Valley rising senior long stick midfielder Alex Warden has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Warden was a first-team All-Central League pick this year for a Jaguars team (17-6) that placed third in the league and third in the District 1 tournament. Warden, who plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club, also played last weekend in the Under Armour Underclassmen Games and made the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Showcase last month.

Warden’s father, Bill, recently retired after serving 21 years in the Air Force. But

originally, Alex Warden was looking at the Naval Academy.

“Navy wasn’t working out,” said Warden, who will spend one year at the Air Force Prep School. “I decided to check out the Air Force and I loved the coaches and the campus.

“The facilities are amazing.”

Warden, who also plays close defense, is the third Philly defenseman to commit to Air Force in the past half year. Earlier in the spring Strath Haven senior Erik Lenke committed to Air Force, and recently Germantown Academy rising senior Ryan Crane committed.

Warden is considering studies in management or engineering. He also is thinking of becoming a pilot. Also a standout fullback, he may also try to play football.

An Honor Roll student, Warden said he enjoyed playing for Team Philly in the Under Armour Games.

“I loved playing against that type of competition,” he said.

Warden said Garnet Valley surprised some teams this year by finishing third in the district.

“We kept getting better as the season went along,” he said. “It was a good run.”
