Final LaxPower Boys’ Rankings: Conestoga is 5th, Haverford School 6th

Conestoga, which won its first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) boys’ championship, and Inter-Ac League co-champion Haverford School finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the final LaxPower National Coaches/Computer Ratings for 2010.

West Islip of West Islip, N.Y., has been named LaxPower’s national boys’ champion for 2010. The Lions, who capped off yet another championship season and won the New York Class A Championship for the second consecutive year and fourth time in the past five years, finished in first place both in the coaches’ poll and in the computer ratings.

West Islip (21-1) had 30 of 41 first-place votes among the coaches. No. 2 Manhasset (NY) received 7 first-place votes, No. 3 St. Paul’s (MD) garnered two first-place votes, No. 6 Haverford School (PA) and No. 4 Jamesville-DeWitt (NY)received one first-place vote each.

Rounding out the top five programs in the country for 2010 are:

#2: Manhasset, Manhasset, NY (20-0) — New York Class C champion (2nd consecutive year)
#3: St. Paul’s School, Brooklandville, MD (15-4) — Maryland MIAA A champion
#4: Jamesville-DeWitt, Syracuse, NY (22-0) — New York Class B champion
#5: Conestoga, Berwyn, PA (24-2) — Pennsylvania PIAA champion after finishing second in 2009

Other Philly teams among the top 75 in the poll include: La Salle (35th), Springfield-Delco (65th) and Episcopal Academy (75th).

The final rankings were compiled using Lax Power’s CCR rating formula, which combines the national computer rankings with a national poll. The computer ratings used for the rankings are based on 24,625 game scores for 3,246 high school teams. The poll is a product of rankings by 41 high school coaches from around the country. Each of these parameters represents 50% of the final tallied results.
