Ryan Buttenbaum won 16 of 20 face-offs and sophomore attackman Tyler Brooke scored four goals to propel Constoga to a 12-7 victory today over Lower Merion today in the District 1 quarterfinals at Henderson.

The third-seeded Pioneers (18-2) advance to the semifinals Tuesday at Ridley against second-seeded Abington at 6 p.m. The Ghosts topped Radnor, 16-13. The Aces (12-9) will play in the losers’ bracket Tuesday (8 p.m.) against Radnor at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Conestoga long stick midfielder and Duke signee Brian Dailey played a key role by scooping eight groundballs, many off the draw. “It’s all about the face-off. I like the face-offs; that’s my game.”

Duke signee Jordan Wolf had three goals and two assists to lead the Aces while Joey Shallow scored three goals. Sophomore Eli Newschaffer made 14 saves in goal.

“Ryan (Buttenbaum) was able to win a lot of face-offs and Tyler Brooke provided the offensive spark there in the third quarter to get the offense going,” said Conestoga coach Brian Samson. “Our execution could have been better, but we are moving on.”
