Lindsay Whipple had three goals and two assists to lead Nazareth High over host Emmaus, 10-9, Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley Conference girls’ lacrosse championship game.

Amanda Denger scored what proved to be the winning goal with a little over seven minutes remaining in the second half as Nazareth staved off rally by the Hornets, who scored two goals in the last 1:30 to cut the deficit to one.

After opening the season with a loss to District 1’s Lower Merion, the Blue Eagles have won 18 straight and have earned the top seed in the four-team District XI playoff. Nazareth (18-1) will meet fourth-seeded Parkland in the first of two semifinals at Emmaus next Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Hornets, 12-7 overall, saw their eight-game win streak come to an end after falling to Nazareth for the third time this season. Emmaus will be the No. 3 seed and will face second-seeded Southern Lehigh in the 7 p.m. nightcap next week. Coach Allison Moxey’s team defeated Solehi 12-5 on Monday to advance to their first LVC title game.

Denger and Kerrin Fair each scored a pair of goals for Nazareth and the Blue Eagles got a standout game in goal from sophomore Rachel Strzelecki.

Emmaus, featuring a roster with just two seniors, was led by sophomore Caitlin Bryan (two goals, two assists) and fellow sophomore Nicole Schmidt (two goals, one assist). Allison Mikelson added a pair of goals and Allison Haas was strong in the cage.
