Thursday’s Philly boys’ scholastic roundup: Springfield-Delco remains undefeated in Central League

Colin Keegan and Joe Venit each scored four goals and Austin Kaut sparkled in the cage with 17 saves as host Springfield-Delco defeated Garnet Valley, 9-4, Thursday in Central League boys’ lacrosse that featured two teams ranked high in the PA Media Rankings.

The win keep the Cougars (No. 2 in the PIAA) atop the Central League with an 8-0 mark (12-1 overall). They host No. 1 La Salle Saturday at noon. Garnet Valley, ranked No. 4 in the PIAA, fell to 9-3 overall (5-3 in league).

Eric Warden led the Jaguars with two goals.

Radnor 6, Haverford High 2

Spencer Lussier had three goals and one assists and Jeff Puckette added a goal and two assists as Red Raiders earned the Central League win.

Lower Merion 10, Penncrest 8

Jordan Wolf had five goals and two assists and Andrew Mongeluzzi added two goals and two assists while Hank Altschuler posted 12 saves the Aces.

Andrew Caldwell had three goals for Penncrest and Adam Yee had two goals and two assists.

Conestoga 17, Marple Newtown 4

Gus Sturm and Jach Jacobs had three goals each while John Lopes, Andrew Anido and Gordie Rohr played well in goal for the Pioneers.

Ridley 14, Harriton 1

Jim Gormley had five goals and Ryan O’Kane added four to lead the Green Raiders.

Strath Haven 8, Upper Darby 3

Mark Dolphin netted five goals to pace the Panthers.

Avon Grove 10, Unionville 7

Tim Golder had three goals while Trevor Hornby and Damian Sobieski had two goals and an assist as Avon Grove remained perfect (6-0) in the Ches-Mont as they geared for Monday’s key first-place battle with Downingtown West.

Mike Nowoswiat led Unionville with two goals.

Abington 19, Holy Ghost Prep 5

Joey Jones had five goals and two assists and Nick Pisko added three goals and three assists while Matt Rambo had three goals and two assists and Anthony Hensley had three goals and one assist to lead the Ghosts.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 16, Archbishop Wood 9

Colin Joka poured in eight goals and Kevin Hennessy posted 20 saves for the Colonials.

Methacton 12, Pottsgrove 2

Methacton moved to 9-4 (8-4 PAC-10) as Cody Ridgway scored three goals and Eli Miller added two while also dominating at the faceoff X (10 for 10).

Upper Merion 18, Cheltenham 2

Trevor Kupecky had five goals and two assists and Luc Minnich scored four goals to pace the Vikings.

CB East 12, North Penn 4

Brendan Coleman had three goals and an assist to lead the Patriots.
